What is a Merchandise Discount Plans?

Merchandise Discount Plans allow you to create merchandise plans that provide discounts for buying in bulk. For example: Buy 10 boxes and get 10% off.

Note: These are different from Merchandise Packs (ie. packs containing set quantities of set items, for a set price). More on these: #IVTMPCK01.

How do I add a Merchandise Discount Plan?

  1. From the Maintenance menu, select Merchandise Discount Plans. The Merchandise Discount Plans window will now open.
  2. From the dropdown at the bottom of this screen, ensure Bulk Discounts is selected.
  3. Click Add Merchandise Plan to add a new Merchandise Discount Plan. The Add New Plan screen will now appear as shown below.Merchandise Discount Plan
    • Plan code is used to enter a 3-character code for your Merchandise Discount Plan.
    • Enable Code is inactive if you wish to leave the plan dormant in the system.
    • Description is used to enter a simple description for the plan.
    • In the Incentive information section, enter the percentage or fixed-value discount to provide to the user when they buy items that meet the criteria of this plan. You will also need to set how many items the Customer needs to purchase before the incentive takes effect. Note: The number you enter as the purchase quantity before the incentive kicks in is the total number of items purchased in a single transaction. This is particularly important if your Merchandise Discount Plan contains multiple items - for example, large boxes & small boxes. It doesn't matter how many of each item the Customer purchases, so long as the total is over the incentive trigger number, then the incentive will be applied.
    • Repeat this incentive every X items is used to tell StorMan to offer the discount every time the person purchases the above multiple of items in the same transaction. In our screenshot example above, we offer 5% off for every 5 boxes purchased. Because we have the Repeat incentive checkbox ticked, the Customer would get two lots of "5% off" when they buy 10 boxes, or three lots of "5% off" when they buy 15 boxes (and so on).
  4. Add a Code and Description to your Merchandise Discount Plan.
  5. Set your incentive - that is, whether to provide a percentage based discount (eg: 10% off), or a fixed value discount (eg: $10 off) and then set how many items must be purchased for this incentive to take effect.
  6. If you want this incentive to repeat whenever multiples of this item are purchased, click the relevant box. In our above screenshot example, you can see that the Customer would receive 5% off when they buy 5 large boxes.

Using our example, tick the box if you want the Customer to get 5% off for every 5 boxes they buy in a single transaction. In other words, the Customer would get two lots of "5% off" when they buy 10 boxes, or three lots of "5% off" when they buy 15 boxes (and so on).

  7. Now set whether or not you would like the discount to be shown as a separate line-item on the Customer's invoice. If enabled, you will also need to specify the analysis code (more on analysis codes: #ANLWAC01) to assign the discount to, as well as the description to show on the invoice.
  8. Over on the right hand side, click any items that apply to this plan (yes, you can select more than one). Selected items will appear as bold.
  9. When done, click OK to save & return to the previous screen.

What do I need to be aware of when using Merchandise Discount Plans?

  • If you have Merchandise Discount Plans that use similar items, the merchandise with the lower 'priority' number will be used (in other words, a plan with priority 1 will be used over a plan with priority 2).
  • We do not recommend selecting any core system codes (such as Rental Fee, Insurance, Deposit, Late Fee, etc) as items within a plan.
  • If your Merchandise Discount Plans contains multiple items, the total number of items is taken into consideration when applying the incentive - NOT the total of each item type.
  • If you set the incentive to repeat every X items, then each time the Customer meets the criteria in a single transaction, another incentive will be given. In other words, if you give the Customer 5% off every 5 boxes they buy, and they buy 15 from you, then they will get three lots of "5% off".
