  • StorMan Mobile uses third-party software that is not supported by StorMan; we provide this article merely to offer some assistance in setting up & using this service. Some StorMan Mobile editions allow multiple connection methods - as such, we recommend sharing this page with your IT provider so that they can advise you on the best option to suit your needs.

What is StorMan Mobile?

StorMan Mobile is the name given to the ability to access your StorMan data from an internet-enabled mobile device, such as an Android phone or tablet, or an iOS device (iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch). StorMan Mobile uses Microsoft Remote Desktop technology to connect to a computer running StorMan (back in your office) from a remote location. Some versions of StorMan may present certain limitations, as outlined below. Note: The Microsoft Remote Desktop protocol (as of version 6) features 128-bit encryption, using the RC4 encryption algorithm.

How much is StorMan Mobile? What are the limitations? What are the requirements?

Information for StorMan Professional users (with or without the MultiUser or MultiSite add-ons):

  • StorMan will not charge you to use the service.
  • Charges may be incurred from your IT provider (to assist in setting it up).
  • Charges may be incurred from your ISP or Mobile Data Provider (in terms of download / upload allowance; especially if using a 3G or similar mobile network).
  • Charges may be incurred from your ISP (if you elect to have them setup a static IP address for your connection).
  • Charges will apply if you ask StorMan to assist you in setting up this service, as it is not covered by your support & upgrades plan.
  • Printing is generally not available from mobile devices or tablets.
  • When using StorMan Mobile to connect to your StorMan computer, it will disable the system for any user using the StorMan computer back in the office. As such, you may wish to limit your StorMan Mobile usage to after-hours. The workaround for this would be to purchase StorMan MultiUser (if you don't use it yet) and have the StorMan Mobile user connect to one of the lesser-used StorMan terminals back in the office. If you already use StorMan MultiUser and run a busy office, you may wish to purchase an additional client licence for StorMan MultiUser and install this on a lesser-used computer for the StorMan Mobile user to connect to.
  • StorMan Mobile uses no StorMan technology; problems connecting or using the mobile tools are to be directed to either your IT provider or ISP (depending on the nature of the issue). Charges will apply if you ask StorMan to assist you in troubleshooting this service, as it is not covered by your support & upgrades plan.
  • Understandably, devices with a small screen will require a lot of panning & zooming.
  • Connecting to your StorMan database using StorMan Mobile requires that your office-end have either: a static IP address, or a dynamic DNS service to point a DNS hostname to a dynamic IP address.
  • Your IT technician will need to setup port forwarding through your router, so that the RDP port is redirected to the correct computer inside your LAN.
  • You will need to download & install Microsoft Remote Desktop (by Microsoft Corporation) on your Android or iOS device.

What do I do if I'm having connection problems?

If you are unable to connect to your StorMan database using StorMan Mobile, please consult your IT technician. They will need to ensure that you are connecting to the correct IP address & that the port forwarding rules are correctly setup in your router.

IT technicians requiring further technical data can email support@storman.com (please provide your IT technician with your 5-digit sitecode, as they will need to include this in their email to us).
