What is a Windows service?
Please refer to this Wikipedia article for more information. If you do not understand the implications of running applications as a service, please do not proceed with the steps outlined in this article.
How can I run StorMan Server as a Windows service?
Please ensure all StorMan Clients are closed before performing this operation.
- Open StorMan Server, and select from the menu. This will register the server as a Windows service.
- Once done, quit the StorMan Server application. Then, open the Windows Management Console Services snap-in via Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services.
- Locate and then right-click on the 4D Server: StorMan service, and select Properties. Click Start to start the service. If you want the StorMan Server service to automatically start each time you start Windows, set the start-up type to Automatic or Automatic (Delayed Start) - depending on your preferences. When done, click OK to save & close.
- You have now setup StorMan Server as a Windows service.
Note: While StorMan Server is running as a service, you will not be able to access the StorMan Server application via the usual Start Menu shortcut for the application - as the database will be in use (and "locked") by the service.
How can I stop running StorMan Server as a Windows service?
Please ensure all StorMan Clients are closed before performing this operation.
- Open the Windows Management Console Services snap-in via Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services.

- Locate and then right-click on the 4D Server: StorMan service, and select Properties. Click Stop to terminate the service. Change the start-up type to Manual. When done, click OK to save & close.
- Launch the StorMan Server application in the usual fashion, and select from the menu. This will unregister the server as a Windows service.
