Programs that interfere with StorMan

A number of security programs have been known to interfere with StorMan functions or 3rd-party programs, such as the PDF generation tools used by StorMan to print invoices and letters to PDF.

The following programs are known to interfere with StorMan (at the time of writing)...

  • Advanced Email Monitoring - This email monitoring & user-surveillance program (running as winagent.exe in the Windows Task Manager) blocks all StorMan email traffic, causing a 10064 error.

  • AVG AntiVirus & AVG Security Suite - A number of our clients have reported that this product does not allow PDF's to be printed from within StorMan. However, we have been told that a number of tweaks to the products setup will allow PDF printing to work unimpeded. Please consult your IT technician for further information.

  • CA (Computer Associates) AntiVirus & Security software - A number of our clients have reported that this product does not allow PDF's to be printed from within StorMan. Even disabling the product does not fix the issue. The product needs to be completely removed and replaced with something else.

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 10 - A number of our clients have reported problems with the email notice editor (in StorMan v9) when the Microsoft Internet Explorer 10 web browser is installed on their system. The solution is to remove this browser from your system and roll-back to Microsoft Internet Explorer 9. If you require a more advanced browser, we recommend migrating to Google Chrome or Firefox. Please consult your IT technician for assistance if required.

  • Norton AntiVirus & Security Software - A number of our clients have reported that this product does not allow PDF's to be printed from within StorMan. However, we have been told that a number of tweaks to the products setup will allow PDF printing to work unimpeded. Please consult your IT technician for further information.

  • Spamihilator - A number of our clients have reported that this product crashes StorMan whenever HTML areas are loaded and/or HTML emails are created/generated/viewed within StorMan.

  • Trend Micro AntiVirus & Security Software - A number of our clients have reported that this product does not allow PDF's to be printed from within StorMan. However, we have been told that a number of tweaks to the products setup will allow PDF printing to work unimpeded. Please consult your IT technician for further information.

  • UltraMon - In some instances, this program will prevent you from being able to move certain windows around on the screen - such as the Floating Window (more on this: #DBDFW01) on the StorMan Dashboard.

The following products are known to work well with StorMan (at the time of writing)...

Free software vs. Paid software

While some companies may provide a free security and / or antivirus solution, there is usually a catch - be it popup ads, the inability to remove a threat when detected, lack of support, etc.

Furthermore, be sure to read the licensing information carefully upon installation, as some products are only free for personal use, not business use. When it comes to the security & safety of your computer systems & Customer data, remember the adage "you get what you pay for".
