What is a screenshot?

A screenshot (or screen shot), screen capture (or screencap), screen dump, screengrab (or screen grab), or print screen is an image taken by a computer to record the visible items displayed on the monitor, television, or another visual output device. Screenshots can be used to demonstrate a program, a particular problem a user might be having, or generally when display output needs to be shown to others or archived.

Why would I need to take a screenshot of something?

At times, our support team may ask you to take or send a screenshot of a particular Customer, error message or other on-screen message to assist in helping to solve a support query.

How do I take a screenshot?

  3. Once located, click the Snipping Tool link to start it.

  5. Click the Email icon to send your screenshot via email. Alternatively, click the Save icon to save the file, which you can then attach to an email message.

Instructions for Microsoft Windows XP...

  1. Click on the window you want to capture & press Alt + Print Screen on your keyboard.Note: The Print Screen key is located near the upper-right corner of your keyboard (depending on the type of keyboard you have).Note: You can take a screen shot of your entire desktop rather than just a single window by pressing the Print Screen key without holding down the Alt key.
  2. Click Start, then Accessories, then Paint. In the Paint window, click Edit, and then click Paste.
  3. When the image appears in the Paint window, click File, then click Save As. In the Save As dialog box, select the save location (the Desktop is generally a good place, as you can easily delete the file once you've sent it to us) & enter a name for your screenshot.
  4. Use File then Exit to close Paint.
  5. Open your email program & attach the file you saved in Step 3. Once you have sent your email, you can delete the file you saved in Step 3 (if no longer required).

Instructions for Mac...

  1. Click on the window you want to capture & press Command + Shift + 3 on your keyboard. This will take a screenshot of the entire screen. Note: Use COMMAND + SHIFT + 4 instead, if you wish to select the area to include in your screenshot. You could also try COMMAND + SHIFT + 4 + SPACEBAR if you wish to take a screenshot of a certain window.
  2. A file will be created on your desktop, which you can then attach to an email message.
