StorMan is reporting that the "The correct Log File for this data file cannot be found..."

On rare occasions when you start StorMan, it may report that "The correct Log File for this data file cannot be found...". Steps on correcting this issue are outlined below...

  1. Click OK on the dialog.
  2. A file browser window will appear. Browse to StorMan's Database folder on your computer's hard drive. Note: This folder is normally found inside the StorMan installation folder on your hard drive (usually 'C:\Program Files\StorMan\Database\'). If you are not sure where StorMan is installed, please consult your IT technician.
  3. Once in this folder, all 4D Log files (ie. files with the .4DL extension) are shown. Select the file that has the same name as your company datafile. For example: If your datafile is called "citystorage.4DD", then your log file will have the same name in front of the period. In our example, the log file we want would be called "citystorage.4DL". This is the file we would select here.
  4. If the log file is current, StorMan will automatically re-map it and continue as normal. If this is the case, you do not need to read further. Read on if you receive another message...
  5. If your log file is not current, or does not correspond, StorMan will display a "The Log File does not correspond to the data file" message. Click OK.
  6. StorMan will them prompt that "A Log File is necessary to use this database". Click OK.
  7. StorMan will now shut down. Start StorMan again.
  8. The original message, "The correct Log File for this data file cannot be found...", will appear once again. Click OK.
  9. Another file browser window will appear. Once again, browse to StorMan's Database folder on your computer's hard drive. Note: This folder is normally found inside the StorMan installation folder on your hard drive (usually 'C:\Program Files\StorMan\Database\'). If you are not sure where StorMan is installed, please consult your IT technician.
  10. Click New, then Save.
  11. If StorMan prompts that the file already exists, click Yes to replace the existing log with your new one.
  12. StorMan will then prompt to say that you need to make a backup. Click OK to start the backup.
  13. Once complete, StorMan should start as normal.
