This article is intended for general use by I.T technicians or anyone savvy with PCs running Microsoft Windows and the uninstallation of Microsoft Windows Updates. The article was written in response to a Microsoft Windows Update titled "Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2962872)", another titled "Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2976627)" and another titled "Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2977629)" - which cause crashing issues with the StorMan daily processing and production of notices (HTML content). Once uninstalled, StorMan will continue to operate as expected.

StorMan v9.2.1 (and higher) is not affected by this issue, so we recommend upgrading to this version if you are unable to uninstall the Microsoft Windows Update or continue to have issues after doing so.

How to correct the issue

To fix this issue, uninstall the Microsoft Windows Update titled "Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2962872)", "Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2976627)" and "Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2977629)". Steps on doing so are provided below...

  1. From the Windows Start Menu, select Control Panel.
  2. Select the Action Center.
  3. Click on Windows Update, then Installed Updates (on the left hand side of the window).
  4. In the search box to the upper right, type security. This will then filter the updates just by the Security type. Scroll down the list until you find Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2962872).
  5. Click to highlight the security update then select Uninstall. Wait for this to complete and then restart your computer to finalise the uninstall of the update. Note: If you are running a StorMan version less than v9.2.0, you will also need to ensure that your Internet Explorer version is no higher than v9. If you have a higher version installed you will need to roll-back to Internet Explorer v9. This can be done by following the same process, but entering Internet into the search box at Step 4. After uninstalling, you'll need to again reboot your computer to complete the process.
  6. Repeat Steps 4 and 5; this time, search for the other Windows Updates that cause issues.
  7. After rebooting your computer, go back to the Action Center and click on X important update is available (if no updates show you may need to check for updates first; where X is a number). This will then show the updates that we removed in Step 5 & 6.
  8. Right-click on the updates of concern and select Hide update. Then click OK at the bottom right of that screen. Note: If this step is not completed, then the next time your computer performs a Windows Update, the same issue will occur. You must hide the update to prevent this from reoccurring.
  9. You can now close the remaining windows and return to your desktop.
