What is a "You cannot open this database because the data file (or one of its segments) is locked" error?

This particular error appears when StorMan cannot open your datafile or one of its segments because the operating system is not giving it permission to do so. This error will usually appear on Microsoft Windows Vista operating systems, as this operating system has more security layers than older versions of Microsoft Windows.

How do I fix a "You cannot open this database because the data file (or one of its segments) is locked" error?

  • Check to ensure StorMan Server is not running as a Windows service on your computer (more on this: #HWSRSSS01)

  • Move your database files (the .4DD, .4DR and .4DL file) to another folder on the computer - for example, a sub-folder of the My Documents folder.

  • Run StorMan as an Administrator user

  • Give the Users' group permission to write to the StorMan folder

  • Disable UAC (User Account Control)

 

Your IT technician should be able to assist you with these, if required.
